Pilgrimage Routes of the Zlín Region

In addition to visiting the respective churches, the visitors who come to the Zlín Region may explore the beauties of nature and history along the pilgrimage trails that are marked and equipped with facilities for pilgrims.

Above all, the region is intersected by a long leg of the Pilgrimage Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius that links Moravia’s major pilgrimage sites: Svatý Kopeček near Olomouc, Svatý Hostýn, Zlín–Štípa, and Velehrad. Established by local church associations, the route, dubbed the ‘Moravian Compostela’, annually attracts hosts of pilgrims to Velehrad. The 112-kilometer-long route is divided into six divisions, which can be done in one day, including sightseeing and rest breaks.

The pilgrimages are also promoted by local authorities. E.g., the Zlín Region has been preparing the European Cultural Route of Saints Cyril and Methodius, which is co-funded by EU grants. The trans-European route will use some existing legs of other routes and will link sites and locations connected with lives and work of Saints Cyril and Methodius with the natural focal point – Velehrad.
